ingredients

  • 4 large portobellos
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 wholemeal burger buns
    Lettuce, tomato and thinly sliced red onion (on the side)
    Optional: melted cheese, sliced avocado, mustard, mayonnaise, etc.

1.Preparation of the Portobellos:

Wipe the portobellos with a damp cloth to remove any dirt. Remove the stems if necessary.
In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, minced garlic, soy sauce, dried thyme, salt and pepper.

2. Marinate the Portobellos:

Place the portobellos on a baking sheet and brush them with the marinade mixture on both sides.
Marinate the portobellos for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavours.

3. Roast the Portobellos:

Preheat the oven to 200°C.
Place the marinated portobellos on a baking sheet and roast in the oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until tender and golden brown.

4. Assemble the Burger:

Lightly toast the wholemeal burger buns.
Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom of each bun.
Place a roasted portobello on top of the lettuce.
Add tomato slices, red onion and other optional toppings to taste.
Cover with the top of the burger bun.

5. Serve and Enjoy:

Serve the portobello burgers hot and serve with your favourite sides, such as fries, salad or pickles.
